What is a Micro School? (we should build more!)
Is this a good model? Why is it becoming popular?
Welcome to The Digital Renaissance
Hello, Happy Sunday! I’ve been immersing myself in the renaissance of education more and more. Especially digital. But today I want to share with you a physical part of it.
Read time: 2 minutes
The current education system follows an assembly line/factory model.
We all know this. And people all over the world are waking up for a change.
Many people and private companies are trying to change this.
One of the interesting concepts around (for a while now, but gaining popularity) is Micro Schools.
Since the COVID-19, in the US alone:
4M kids have left the public school system
2.6M teachers and staff have resigned from the public school system
Alternative schooling has been growing 54% Year Over Year.
54%!
Enter Micro Schools. They are just one of the many alternative schooling options.
They are starting to pop up everywhere and parents are becoming more interested in this model.
What sets it apart is its flexibility and adaptability.
It’s a small learning environment where usually each “class” has less than 15 students, with a customized curriculum that fits not only the needs of each class but also of each kid.
It’s a personalized and tailored learning experience for each student.
They usually range from $400 to $1,500 per month, with some options for free tuition.
These schools can operate from private homes or commercial spaces and are not confined to the traditional model of education.
Unlike the passive, factory model of traditional schooling, Micro Schools have an active learner system.
This means that not only are students actively engaged in their educational journey, but their families also.
One of the biggest blockers for Micro Schools is money for staff. But I believe AI will help 2 or 3 staff members do the work of 6 or 10.
This will reduce the costs even more while also providing students with better learning tools.
Pair that with data analytics and insights and you get a bullet-proof data-driven education.
Exciting times!
